**UPDATE** 05 JUNE 2023

We have assessed the outline applications now and selected those to invite to develop full proposals. We would like to thank everyone who developed and submitted applications, members of the 7 assessment panels, the rovers who helped ensure consistency between panel outcomes and members of our Science, Engineering and Technology Board who provided advice on the balance of the selected portfolio and on the number of proposals to take forward.

We sent emails at the end of May to let Principal Investigators know if their outline CDT was successful or not. We assessed 335 proposals and we are inviting 124 to develop full proposals for submission in early September.

The full funding invitation rules are published now (EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training – UKRI

Summaries of the successful outlines will be published on our website in mid-June. This will provide an opportunity for potential partners to see the details of full proposals being developed.

We will let you know when the summaries are available.

We are taking forward some proposals of interest to other Research Councils and the Ministry of Defence and we would welcome discussion with any other government departments or organisations interested in co-funding.

The panels commented on the high quality of proposals received. There were significantly more high quality proposals than we could invite to write a full proposal, given we only expect to fund around 40. We saw a wealth of well-made cases for interdisciplinary cohort-based doctoral education to benefit the UK research and innovation system. While respecting the confidentiality of individual proposals, we will draw on this as evidence in developing the case for future doctoral investments.
